Many will go toward insulin directly, but some oral pills that can be used as well. Recommend working with a dietician as well.
Diet and exercise as well as following recommendations from your OB/GYN he or she may need to start you on insulin
Principles of management for a pregnant woman with diabetes, are almost the same as for pre-existing diabetes. Aim for diabetics control: fasting blood sugar (BS) 4-7mmol/L: HbA1c < 7%. Early referral to a diabetic physician and obstetrician is best management. If insulin is required antenatally, cease insulin postpartum. Aim to deliver vaginally at term at the latest, unless earlier delivery indicated by obstetrics complications. Overall, there’s not much I can say, as there’s need to know more about your diabetes, particularly its treatment. So I strongly suggest that you see your diabetic team.
Thank you, and the best wishes.
Yes, it can be controlled. Also, it is very important for it to be tightly controlled. Fasting sugars are supposed to be less than 90s, etc.

Diet and exercise is 1st line. However, if treating Type 2 diabetes in pregnancy, insulin is the gold standard and has proven to be one of the safest diabetes medication. Other oral medications that have proven to be safe to control diabetes in pregnancy are metformin and glyburide. All options must be discussed with your OB/GYN.
