Avoid vigorous activity, bending over, straining, give time for your body to settle down. Follow your doctor instructions as perfectly as you can. Swelling always comes down, and then some people takes longer than others..
Postoperative day 3 is usually the worst swelling. To decrease the swelling you want to sleep with your head elevated (keeping your head above the level of your heart helps the swelling resolve), apply ice to your cheeks (but don't get the cast wet), drink plenty of fluids, and avoid prepared foods/salt. Some surgeons prescribe a course of steroids after the surgery to help, but swelling for the first few weeks is very normal.
