Stay calm, speak gently, and encourage them to take their meds or see a doctor. If you have any further questions or need more clarity, please consult with a psychiatrist. If you`re in Texas, we welcome you to reach out to www.MidCitiesPsychiatry.com, we`re here to help you.
This is a complex question. It requires a skilled neuropsychpharmacologist and a cooperative patient to set a flexible pharmacologic intervention.
Be aware that sometimes there is a risk of violence toward you when a person has schizoaffective disorder. Set limits when it comes to physical or verbal abuse. Offer to help with daily responsibilities, such as laundry or meals. Help your loved one follow his or her treatment plan as directed by health care providers. This could mean driving him or her to therapy sessions or suggesting ways to cope with stress, such as going for a walk together.
Mood stabilizer medications can be very helpful to calm those with schizoaffective disorder. Sometimes, antipsychotic medications can be used as well.
