If the tissue is inflamed and highly irritated, you may have a localized periodontal infection. You should contact the office and explain your symptoms. They may want to take a look at the area as it may require additional treatment.
Hi, following a tooth extraction it is normal for the area to feel tender for a few weeks. And infection would likely result in swelling, a foul taste or odor, or severe pain. When in doubt call the doctor who removed tooth and describe your symptoms. They can help determine if your symptoms warrant another evaluation.
Infection after an extraction is a known complication and should be evaluated by your surgeon as soon as possible. The classic signs of infection are redness, pain, swelling, fever and pus or suppuration. If you notice a yellow ooze draining from the extraction site or a bad taste or smell it could mean an infection. The best way to know for sure is to return to your dental surgeon for an evaluation.
