I have diabetes type 2 and will have surgery. How does general anesthesia affect diabetics?

It depends on the control of your diabetes.
Generally, after surgery, we see a transient elevation in blood sugar mild.
Because of the stress of General anesthesia as well as surgery, the random blood sugar may go up . However, the blood sugar and HB A1c need to be optimized well before surgery with medical management as well as diet and exercise.
Well, there is little data here, how long is surgery? Heart transplant? Bypass? Kidney transplant? Well I am going to assume that this is a short surgery,?Cholecystectomy? The key is for the anesthesiologist to monitor your diabetes during the surgery and he will treat it as the
surgery is being done. I am sure the anesthesiologist will know that you're a diabetic. I would tell him or her what your glucose levels are and where during the day and if you take insulin or not.
