In very poor hygiene and diet weeks!
Hello,

Great question. It depends on your diet, like, if you drink a lot of soda and eat sugary foods, the cavity can progress more quickly. It also depends if you have dry mouth. Or it also depends if you floss and brush regularly with fluoride toothpaste or not.
Can be a couple months
Quick answer: you are what you eat......
Cavities are propagated by acid, which is produced by bacteria, which thrive on the sugar you eat. No sugar = no cavity. No bacteria = no cavities
Depending on each person's oral hygiene and the body's response to the cause of cavity, it can drastically change the speed of cavity progression. For example the amount of saliva available in your mouth can slow or speed up cavity progression. In general, having adequate amount of saliva helps slow down cavity progression. Using fluoride toothpaste, water with fluoride, fluoride mouth rinse, anti-bacterial mouth rinse, flossing, water flossing may also help slow down cavity progression.
That depends on the size of a cavity at the time of diagnosis, the aggressiveness of bacteria which caused it, on the oral hygiene of a person who has a cavity, on the nutritional habits of that person, on overall teeth health and tooth structure and size. Many factors can play a role in the speed of cavity progression and spread of decay to other teeth.
