“How long after a chiropractic adjustment do you feel better?”
I had my first chiropractic adjustment for back pain. It still hurts. How long after a chiropractic adjustment do you feel better?

It depends on your condition . But usually the first 6-8 visits is the hardest because the body is changing / learning and healing and by 12 visit your pain should subside.
Depending on the injury and how long the patient has had symptom; patient usually can experience significant improvement within 3 visits. It is very common in most cases to feel relief immediately following the first adjustment.
Most patients will get some immediate relief after a chiropractic adjustment. Whether your back pain is a chronic problem or the result of a recent injury, it may take several adjustments before seeing any relief.
Medications can work quickly but they are simply masking your problem. Imagine driving down the road and your car makes a funny noise so you turn up the radio. The problem is still there, you just can't hear it. Truly making positive changes in the body takes time. Just like losing weight, straightening your teeth, or getting in shape to run a 10 k.
Give your chiropractor time to work on your problem and follow their directions on icing, stretching, and ergonomics. Even if you don't get relief from the first adjustment, very soon you will notice less pain, increased ROM, and better mobility. Most chiropractic patients present with problems that began weeks or months earlier so they can take time to resolve.

There are many factors that affect a spine's ability to heal so answering the question as it is asked is not quite possible. Factors such as the severity of the problem and how long the problem has been happening are the top factors. Understanding the problem and having proper communication with the doctor are important. I would ask the doctor if you are comfortable with the office and the goals they set out for you to continue along the recommended path.
Hello there!
The purpose of the adjustment is to align your spine so you will have better function. If your misaligned spine has been like that for an extended period of time, you may not feel better right away. Return for follow-up adjustments and as your body settles into the new alignment pattern, you should feel better. Without knowing the details of your condition it is difficult to assess but this is good general advice.

It depends on what your problems are. Usually patients get some relief of symptoms within first two weeks. Some with simple joint complaints sooner
For most people, immediately after the adjustment, they start to feel better. There are many ways in which feeling better may manifest. The research shows and clinically we find a decrease in range of motion (ROM) before someone experiences pain. On the way out, there is typically an increase in ROM before the pain is fully resolved. Therefore, people may feel some relief, the ability to do more, and return to normal activities immediately, although the pain/soreness may linger a bit. This has to do with the type of nerve fibers used to transmit pain and how it manifests.
Depending on what you are seeing the chiropractor for has a lot to do with the results. You should see at least some positive results even after the first treatment. Make sure to discuss exactly how you felt before and after your treatments. Sometimes the doctor will have to modify the treatment to get the best results for each patient.
Many times patients with back pain do feel better after their first treatment. Although, to continue to feel better and to heal the area, more than one visit is almost always necessary. Especially, if you have had the pain for a long time. Even new pains generally take more than one visit to stay feeling all better. I hope this answers your question.
