“How long do the effects of an acupuncture session last?”
I have chronic back pain and my first acupuncture session helped. How long do the effects of an acupuncture session last?

We will exam 1st. Then provide dry needling 1st. Patients will find instant results in general.
Depending on patients’ medical histories and conditions, each patient will have different responses. Patients will have to follow up in 3-7days depending on severity.
Patients will be examined again on how much difference they have experienced since the initial acupuncture treatment.
Then we can give patients a plan for symptomatology.
If we find limitations in improvements, we will apply different plans as a holistic approach.

It's hard to predict exactly how long the effects of an acupuncture session will last as it varies per individual. The more sessions you take, the better you will feel. I suggest you try it and stop when you feel it is time.
I always say acupuncture is very individualized. Everyone experiences for themself and it can be very different from the next person. Some can feel the effects right away & some will feel delayed effects. What typically happens if this is your first experience with acupuncture, you will feel a great relief/drastic change with this initial visit. But following visits 2-4 will be plateaued and no longer drastic, so some think it was a false-hope. But by the 5th or so of the treatment you will get a noticeable change again.
There’s just a cycle it goes through as your circulation/circadian cycle is being treated as well. As you’re progressing, discuss with your practitioner your results and they should have a more accurate prognosis for your condition.

Good morning,
1. Received. Thank you.
2. The effect of an acupuncture session lasts from 1 day to 1 week. It all depends on the chief complaint.
3. Your best bet is to ask your acupuncture practitioner regarding his diagnoses for you and how long it lasts.
4. If you shall have any questions, please feel free to call me at (562) 698-3008.

The general rule of thumb is about 2 days (48 hours). Some people experience relief for less time than that, especially within the first several treatments. This is why it's best to receive more frequent treatment (2-3 times a week) at first, then once you are getting results you can spread the treatments out more (once a week, then every other week, etc.). The effects of acupuncture are somewhat cumulative, like the effects of exercise. You have to keep exercising consistently to get fit initially; consistency is key.
That depends on your lifestyle and cause of the back pain but the more often you go the longer the treatments last

Well, imagine you at the beach... and where the waves break, we want to put a post there. First, we drive the post into the ground and leave it.... the waves and tides keep unsettling the post and it leans over. So, a week later, we come back and straighten it and push it a little deeper in the sand. The following week, it barely moves as the post in now deep in the sand. So, maybe in 6 months, or 1 month, or 12 months... the post will again be destabilized or knocked over. Or maybe a big storm must really activate the water to destabilize the post? The post is you... in balance. The waves are stress, toxins, lack of self care, poor nutrition, trauma (physical and mental), etc.... the waves don't really stop, just like the stresses/insults to health don't stop...
The best course of action is to come back to the beach (practitioner for treatment) and continue straightening and sinking deeper the post (taking better care of ourselves/treatments). But no matter WHAT, the waves don't go away. Generally, the longer you have been going weekly, the longer the treatment will hold... with exceptions (hurricane blows through your beach ;-). Ideally, a person continues to get acupuncture and maintains balance proactively when healthy to ensure symptoms don't come back.
Most importantly, do find a qualified and real acupuncturist! Anything less would be you not really trying this system of healing. Find a fully trained professional in Chinese medicine, possessing a master's degree AND 5+ years experience in this field. Medical Doctors, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, and even Physical Therapists (dry needling) are able to do what looks like acupuncture (but isn't) with a couple weekends of training or less. I would NOT let any of these inadequately trained people NEAR ME. :-)

Everyone is different. After the first treatments, if there is any improvement, it might only last a few minutes or hours or days. I always see patients twice a week until pain levels go down and stay down between treatments, then I go to once a week, and so on.
It varies from person to person (that person can be an acupuncturist or a patient ). Once I only gave a patient one session (first session) for her severe back pain, the effects lasted over four months.
How long the effects of any given treatment may last is highly dependent on where you are in the treatment cycle. Acupuncture treatments are typically cumulative - in other words, I'd expect the effects of the 5th treatment to last longer than the effects of the 1st treatment...all other things being equal.
I generally tell my patients that the first treatment's effects should last at least 24-48 hours. Sometimes the effect lasts longer, sometimes it lasts much longer.
