“How long does it take to get a crown?”
I damaged my tooth and will get a crown. How long does it take to get a crown?

Usually, a crown can be a two-appointment ordeal. This would be one appointment for a temporary crown to be placed just so you're not left with having to deal with a damaged tooth. During this same appointment, you'll likely have an impression of the tooth or prepped surface taken that can get sent out to a lab. While you're wearing your temporary crown, the lab will work on a permanent and naturaly looking crown that will be placed on a second visit. IF you have the ability to look for an office with a CEREC machine, this will allow an office to digitally scan the area AND make the permanent crown out of porcelain via a special CNC milling machine. In this case, you can have everything done in a single visit.
That depends. Some dental offices have a ceramic mill and you could walk out with your permanent crown in about 2 hours. No need for a temporary and second trip back to the office. CEREC, E4D and others can make this happen. Other offices will have a two visit system. The first visit the dentist will prepare the tooth for the crown and you leave with a temporary crown that is temporarily cemented to the tooth. The dental team captures the prepared tooth with a digital scanner or a conventional impression with some sort of dental material--Poly ether, Polyvinyl, or something else. The second visit can be 7-14 days later when the temporary crown is removed, the prepared tooth is cleaned off and the permanent crown tried in and adjusted if needed. After the patient approves the fit of the crown and the shade/color of the tooth, the crown is permanently cemented in place. So the answer is anywhere from 2 hours to 2 weeks. Hope this helps.
Hi, thanks for your email, In 2 appointments the first we prepare a good build up with the preparation to give you a good retention for your crown, then in the same appointment we scan for send to the lab, we make and cement your temporary crown, and in the second appointment in 10 days we deliver your new crown.
If the damage to your tooth doesn't require root canal therapy (damage hasn't reached your nerve), in certain offices that have intraoral scanners and the milling machine, it would take 2 hours to manufacture a beautiful all porcelain custom made crown. But typically, in 85% of dental offices, it would take 2 appointments because they have a dental laboratory manufacture it over 2 weeks off the premise.
