mononucleosis is caused by a virus. The incubation period is usually 2-4 weeks and the illness may last For a prolonged period. However mono is not passed through the air. It is usually transmitted through Saliva. So one should avoid close contact like kissing as well as not sharing such things as drinking Glasses and any item that will expose a contact with the saliva of a mono sufferer.
