It depends on what is being done. Bone surgery usually takes about 4 to 6 weeks to completely recover normal use. Tendon surgery heals within 6 weeks, but usually takes from 3-6 months of hand therapy and exercises to restore full function. I usually remove sutures from skin procedures on the hand at 2 weeks. Recovery is not an issue, but it may take 6 months before the scars have softened and faded.

Full recovery takes full 1 year after the surgery.
