Can take up to 6-8 months
It depends on your friend's age, other medical conditions, physical condition, whether or not they have been on dialysis up until the time of their transplant, how long they have been on dialysis, etc. If there are no complications with the surgery (infection, medical complications, rejection of the new kidney, etc.) then a week to 10 days. But your friend will require ongoing monitoring of their kidney function and will have to take anti-rejection medications faithfully.
