Hello, there is no set amount of time for therapy for schizophrenia. It varies from person to person and the severity of symptoms. Medication and Psychotherapy play an important part in the treatment of individuals with schizophrenia. Once the individual is stabilized with medication psychotherapy at a group/individual level can be beneficial.
Schizophrenia a chronic, lifelong condition, that can be managed to different degrees with medication and therapy.
You may only need antipsychotics until your acute schizophrenic episode has passed. However, most people take medication for 1 or 2 years after their first psychotic episode to prevent further acute schizophrenic episodes occurring, and for longer if the illness is recurrent.
