You don't mention what is causing your swelling ? How long has your heel been swollen ? There are multiple potential causes for swelling of the heel.
For injuries applying ice can be useful for 24 - 48 hours and after that ice slows down the healing process.
20 minutes on, 10 minutes off as often as you can until the pain subsides. Use OTC anti-inflammatory as directed.
Hi! In general, when an injury first occurs icing 20 minutes on and off while awake for the first 48 is helpful. After that period of time at least once a day ( I would recommend at the end of the day). For many people ice provides relief and may ice the area for 20 minutes up to 3 times a day.
That is dependent on what type of injury you have. For most pathologies, I recommend icing for 15-20 minutes 1-2x per day. Depending on what your pathology is will determine how long/days/months you need to rest and ice. So without a diagnosis, it is very difficult to know what advice to give you.
Apply ice 10 minutes on and 20 minutes off. I recommend you make an appointment with a foot and ankle surgeon (podiatrist) for evaluation, diagnosis and treatment options
