Three or four days is usually enough if done four times a day.

Please do not use salt water rinse the day of the extraction or the day after. This will dislodge the blood clot and you will bleed. In general, you can start the salt water rinses two days after extraction, two times a day and continue for a week.
Two weeks, or as long as it is tender.
I would imagine the postoperative salt water regimen varies from office to office. My patients are instructed to dilute a teaspoon of salt in a coffee cup of warm water (approximately 8 oz) and rinse lightly 4-5 times per day beginning the first day after surgery and continuing for the next 4-5 days.

You should rinse the extraction site with salt water for at least 3-5 days after a tooth extraction, especially after eating.
