If you dislocated your ankle then you need to see a podiatrist who treats ankles or an orthopedic physician to assess any damage you might have done to your ankle joint. I would not resume any activity without your ankle being evaluated by a podiatrist or orthopedic physician. As long as your ankle is still not dislocated and you have not fractured your ankle you can walk on it as tolerated.
After having a dislocated ankle depends on what ligaments and structures were injured. The more soft tissue injury the longer recuperative time can take. MRI can be determined to see if there is soft tissue tears or ligament tears. This is best to be evaluated by a physician that treats this type of injury. Jonathan M. If an ankle is truly dislocated, it may involve ligament, tendon, and bone damage. Many of these injuries require surgical repair. Simply resting is not usually the treatment for a true ankle dislocation. But if you had a dislocation and nothing major was damaged, you should rest for 4-8 weeks depending on symtpoms.
