How long until gums stop hurting from flossing?

Every time I floss my gums swell. Is it normal? What can I do?

If you’re not flossing at least daily, your gums may bleed and be swollen and sore. It may take a month to improve even if you start to floss daily. You should see your regular dentist or a periodontist (gum specialist) to make sure everything is all right.
Do you have gingivitis or gum disease? Could be you are flossing incorrectly also. Should not hurt to floss. Make a "C" shape and gentle wiggle between the teeth, then gently go back and forth, but not forcefully or "sawing" (that will for sure bleed and hurt!).

Gums shouldn’t hurt after flossing. If they are, it could mean a couple of things. 1. You may be flossing too hard. 2. You may have gum disease that needs the help of a dentist.

Get your teeth cleaned in a dental office and your gums will no longer hurt from flossing. You most likely have calculus on your teeth that is full of bacteria and when you floss, you are injecting the=at bacteria into your gums causing the inflammation.
Have them cleaned by the hygienist. Floss regularly instead of just when food is stuck. Be more gentle. You just have to go up and down the side of the tooth, not sawing into the gums.
Hello,

You are probably due for a cleaning and check-up. If your teeth and gums are healthy, flossing should not hurt. Therefore, please see your dentist for check-up and cleaning.
