One or six acupuncture sessions are needed for nerve pain .
Evaluation needed
If the nerve pain is due to some muscles pressing on the nerves the prognosis is fairly good, around 10 treatments.
If the problem is more complicated, like narrowing of the bone structures that allows the nerve to pass through, spine deviation, fractures, etc. It will take longer. That being said you should feel some relief, even if it’s minor, from the first appointment.
I wish there was a simple answer to your question. However, there are several ways to approach nerve pain. For example, Chinese Scalp Acupuncture is often very effective, but the source and location of the pain will influence frequency and length of treatment. Percutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation [PENS] can be very successful for nerve pain due to spine problems. The recommended course for PENS is 12 weekly treatments followed by a "rest" period -- relief can last as long as that from an epidural steroid injection, potentially longer. But the duration of any treatment will depend on how long the condition has been present and how the patient's body responds to acupuncture, among other factors. I hope that helps you decide whether to try acupuncture... Dr. Mauro (she/her) Karolyn R. Mauro, MD
Acupuncture sessions for nerve pain are dependent on how chronic the conditions are and the individuals response to the acupuncture treatment. Ideally for acute situations the recommendation is once a week for 8 visits, but in chronic conditions its better to have the treatments more frequently like twice a week. Check with your primary to see if alternative medicine would be a good consideration for your condition. - Live Happy, Michael Live Happy, - Happy Cloud Acupuncture Michael A. Chow, M.A.O.M., L.Ac. Impossible to predict.
Six-eight acupuncture sessions are needed for nerve pain.
4 treatments per year of problem
1 year 4 treatments to heal
It depends on the severity. I would need an in-person evaluation to give an estimate. Acupuncture can help you gradually. I suggest you try it.
We will exam 1st. Then provide dry needling 1st. Patients will find instant results in general.
Depending on patients’ medical histories and conditions, each patient will have different responses. Patients will have to follow up in 3-7days depending on severity.
Patients will be examined again on how much difference they have experienced since the initial acupuncture treatment.
Then we can give patients a plan for symptomatology.
If we find limitations in improvements, we will apply different plans as a holistic approach.
There is no set number of treatments for any problem.
It depends on the cause of the pain.
The 'how many treatments' question is a fair one. The problem is, without seeing and treating you a few times, it's very difficult to answer. We can talk about statistics, but that's averages; they don't tell us anything about what any given individual might expect.

If you've never had acupuncture before, there is one looming question that needs to be answered: are you a person who will respond to acupuncture treatment? Statistically, 5% of the population does not respond to acupuncture. The only way to know if you're in the 5% or the 95% is to try acupuncture. Since the 95% who do respond to acupuncture do so on a spectrum of very fast to fairly slow, answering the initial question can take 2-3 treatments.

After that, it's a question of how fast or slow is your condition changing. The faster things change, the more likely you're looking at a short course of treatment. The slower things change, the more likely you're looking at a long course of treatment.

On average, for pain patients, most studies show the best results in an 8-10 treatment range. I've had patients go longer and I've had patients go shorter.
