Pediatrician Questions Health Checkup

How often should I get a complete body scan done for my son?

My son underwent heart surgery at the age of 1.5 years. He is now 8 years old and is completely fine. However, I always have a fear in the back of my mind. How often should we get him checked up on?

None, unless medically advised.
It looks like he is doing well. However to allay your anxiety he should get a Cardiogram, & a Chest X-ray. He can also be seen by a Cardiologist.
If he had complete repair, a complete body scan is unnecessary. He needs a yearly physical for blood pressure and growth and watch at home for any exercise intolerance. Get a checkup then if this occurs
Not knowing what the heart problem was, it is hard to know. In general, the center where the surgery was performed will follow him up if requested, and make recommendations as to how often this should be done.

Good luck!

If your son has been released with a clean bill of health by his cardiologist and cardiac surgeon, then he needs to have an annual well child exam by your pediatrician who can tell you if you have anything to worry about and to make sure your son stays healthy.
