“How often should I take my child to speech therapy classes?”
My son can't pronounce certain vowels. How often should I take my child to speech therapy classes?

The speech pathologist will make a recommendation based on your child's abilities after an assessment is completed. Recommendations vary from therapist to therapist depending on their style and how severe they feel your child speech delay/disorder is.

Children acquire different vowels at certain ages. Speech therapy is a rehabilitative or habilitative intervention, not a "class". Get your son a speech language pathology assessment. Find a speech therapy practice in your area to get one done. Frequency is determined by the assessment findings. That would be unethical to recommend an arbitrary "take this many sessions" without conducting an evaluation.
It depends on the recommendations in the evaluation. Typically is 2 times per week for 30 or 45 minutes. It can be more or less, this is going to depend on the necessities of the patient.

How old is your son? Has he been evaluated by a Speech and Language Pathologist? If he is older than 3, he can be seen by an SLP at his school free of charge (it would probably be 2 times each week, depending on the severity). If he is younger than 3, he qualifies for Early Intervention through your city/state. To locate an SLP near you, please go to: https://www.asha.org/profind/ and click "Find an SLP" in the green box.

Since vowels are part of every word, mispronouncing them can really impact his speech clarity. Depending on the age of your son, I would say 2-3x week is a typical frequency for speech therapy. If he is under 2, you may wait a few more months to see if it resolves with home practice. Practice animal sounds, read books and give him lots of examples of correct pronunciations. Our kids are always watching what we do!
