“How should I prepare for a PAP smear?”
I will have a PAP smear. How should I prepare for a PAP smear?

Please come into the office, not on your menstrual cycle. Make sure you don't put anything ( lubes or medicine) in the vagina for 48 hrs before. Relax. A Pap smear is a great way to screen for cervical cancer and it does not hurt.

You should shower as usual. Don't use douche. If you are having your monthly cycle, reschedule your appointment.
If this is your first PAP smear, it is always nerve wracking. Let your provider know you are nervous. Try to relax during the procedure. If you are relaxed and follow your provider's instructions, the exam will go much easier for you and the provider!
