Hydrocephalus

My brother has hydrocephalus and has a vp shunt .
I was informed that the shunt may fail.
That is why i was asking what we should do if the shunt fails . Can we treat him before the pressure kills him.
Will we have enough time .
I am really worried .
Thanks

As general answer with shunt failures, they do not suddenly kill people. In fact, if the shunt fails, sometimes the problems are so slow coming =
He needs regular follow up with the neurosurgeon with Cat Scans of the head and they should review with you the symptoms to watch for. Shunt failure is usually not sudden but may require an ER evaluation. It is treated with a temporary shunt or a replacement of the existing shunt.
