Dermatologist Questions Folliculitis

I have been suffering from all over itchiness on my body and scalp. I don’t see any bugs or nits. I have a crawling sensation with a stinging and biting feeling all over as well. What could this be?

I’ve been itchy for months but the crawling, stinging, and biting sensation started a month ago. I have been to my physician and they really had no answer. They just gave me Benadryl. They referred me to a dermatologist who said i may have Folliculitis. She put me on doxycycline and prednisone. I’ve been on it for 4 days and it’s not working. I have a skin rash on my chest with red itchy bumps that look like acne. It comes and goes. Sometimes I’ll see a bump or two on other areas of my body but not as bad as my chest. I get itchy in my vaginal area and my rectal area. Sometimes i get rashes on the sides of my cheeks down my neck too or by my ears. It keeps me up all night and i lose a lot of sleep. I suffer from gastrointestinal problems and eat probably too much sugar. I have a lot of health issues. I’m worried i might have mites or some kind of parasitic bug.

It sounds like you're dealing with a lot of discomfort with itching, rashes, and a crawling sensation. Your doctor diagnosed you with folliculitis, which causes red, itchy bumps, but it seems like the treatment is not working well yet.

Here are a few other things to consider:

Allergic reactions: Sometimes, itching and rashes are caused by allergies to food, medicine, or things around you.
Other skin conditions: Conditions like eczema or contact dermatitis can also cause similar symptoms.
Mites or fungus: While parasites like mites or fungal infections could be the cause, they usually have other signs too.
Gut issues and sugar: Your stomach problems and eating a lot of sugar could be affecting your skin too.
If the treatment you’re on isn't working, you should go back to your dermatologist to discuss it further. You might need a new approach or more tests to figure out what's going on.

Hello there! There are different possibilities such as folliculitis, molluscum and you may have a sensitive skin rash in addition. I recommend follow up with a physician/dermatologist that can evaluate, and if needed, biopsy and diagnose this skin condition so appropriate treatment can be given!
