Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor (ENT) Questions Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)

Inconsistently timed 'pressure' in left ear. What could be the cause?

At seemingly random times in the day, my left ear seems to grow an odd pressure that muffles sound and my own speech, makes me hear my own breathing, and only sometimes grows to pain. Could this be due to an earwax clog, or could I have scratched my inner ear in the wrong way? I almost never use Q-tips, but I do wear earphones that hang off my ears.

This may be typical of something we physician Sturm has eustachian tube dysfunction. This has to do with the pathway between the nose and the middle ear which can be improved with swallowing and yawning.
It sounds like an Eustachian tube problem. I would visit an Ear-Nose-Throat doctor for an evaluation. They will have treatments for you.
Most likely a Eustachian tube problem. Either dysfunction (opening problem) or overpatency. Occasionally symptoms like these indicate overactivity of the intratympanic muscles
Good morning, it could very well be due to wax or fluid behind the eardrum. I suggest you see an Ear, Nose, and Throat physician or audiologist and they would be able to advise you.

Sincerely,

I think you are likely on the right track with the wax plug. I recommend you have an external ear exam by an audiologist.
