Is a fissure and fistula the same thing?

I suffer from a lump on my rectum near the anus. It is approximately 1/2 to 3/4 inches long oblong in shape. A little pain seeming to get worse. Somewhat stable in growth. I have tried a sitz bath, no help. Years ago I had a fistula. Approximately 60 years while in the military. It was excised and packed with medicated thread.

They are the same. A fissure is a tear in the anal canal. A fistula is an abnormal opening in or around the anus. A conscientious doctor should be able to diagnose you on physical exam.
