Both can be helpful. Chiropractic helps with bone alignment, particularly the SI joints, on either side of the sacrum, the triangular bone at the bottom of the spine, which joins the two hip bones. After the chiropractic alignment, massage will help with the muscles.
The start of hip pain is usually due to a lm issue with biomechanics and would best be helped through a Chiropractor, but there may be muscle involvement as well which a Physical Therapist can help with muscular imbalance and soft tissue.
Is the pain true hip pain or is it sacroiliac pain? The hip joint is where the leg attaches to the pelvis and is on the side of the pelvis. The sacroiliac joint is near the center of the back and is between the pelvis and the sacrum. Hip pain can be caused by degeneration of the joint capsule and arthritis. Sometimes a chiropractic spinal manipulation of the sacrum and/or pelvis can relieve hip pain, but an examination by a qualified and licensed chiropractor is needed for a proper evaluation for treatment.
It depends on what your personal goals are for movement with that hip and how it affects your lifestyle. A massage will likely feel good but won’t address the root cause for your pain. But that also depends on the provider you see; same with a chiropractor. A chiropractor is more likely to address the root cause for your pain and a very good chiropractor will educate you and empower you with that knowledge and help address sustainable movement habits to get you moving without pain.

That's a great question. It really depends on the cause of the pain. It needs to be determined whether or not the issue is muscular or structural. That is done in our office first before adjustments are delivered.
