Physiatrist (Physical Medicine) Questions Physiatrist

Is a physiatrist a pain management doctor?

I am a 33 year old male. I want to know if a physiatrist is a pain management doctor?

This is a good question. A Physiatrist may be a pain doctor and may not be a pain doctor. It depends on if the doctor or Physiatrist did extra training in pain management. Most Physiatrists can treat some pain, but are not officially a pain management doctor unless they had this extra training.
I hope this helps to answer the question!
Yes
"Pain Management Physicians" are doctors that completed a fellowship in Pain Management accredited by the ACGME or AOA. Adult specialties that can undergo such fellowships include Anesthesiology, Physiatry (AKA Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation), Neurology and Psychiatry
Physiatrists can have different approaches to treat pain than anesthetists. I strongly recommend you see a physiatrist for her pain management

A physiatrist is trained in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Many, but not all, physiatrists manage chronic (long standing) painful conditions.
Not always, but can be.
Physiatry is a specialty involved in restoring function. We deal with spinal cord injury, stroke , sports, and pain. Another way to look at is is as non surgical orthopedics combined with neurology. Some physiatrists will also do a an additional training (fellowship) in one of those areas mentioned above.

Hope this helps
