I had a root canal yesterday. My gums hurt bad. Is it normal to have gum pain after a root canal?

Gum pain after a root conflict is very common. If the pain does not subside in a few days please make a follow up appointment t with your dentist for an evaluation
Yes. A rubber dam is usually placed on the tooth to protect from germs during the procedure. This can cause the gums to be sore. It should go away soon. It will get better everyday.

A root canal is basically a type of surgery. It is not unusual to have discomfort afterward. If you can take Advil take 4 tablets which are 800 mg.
Yes, it is normal, though most patients have little to no pain at all. Usually, OTC meds like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can handle it. Some patients can have severe pain and swelling. You should consult your endodontist for specific problems relating to you.
It can happen anytime, might not be related to a root canal. You need a dental exam to determine the cause.
Yes 1-3 days of gum pain is normal.
It may be because of use of dental clamp used to isolate the tooth.
