Hi,

Major depression can have various manifestations and impacts on a person’s functionality, from minor, manageable discomfort to severe disability. I know many who can work with compensated major depression and some who can’t. Disability status should be determined after the response to the medication trial. If the person is experiencing an episode of MD, and has partial or no response to treatment, temporary disability claim can be filed. Permanent disability for MD will require more time for determination. It usually happens after several episodes of failed treatment. Afterwards, it depends on the length and severity of the course of condition. In any case, psychiatric consultation is necessary.
Hope this will be helpful.

Good luck to you,

Major depression, when severe, can be disabling. When treated with an antidepressant, depression often improves significantly. I would encourage you to see a psychiatrist for a trial of antidepressant therapy.
