Is therapy better than antidepressants for anxiety?

I have anxiety and want to treat it. Is therapy better than antidepressants for anxiety?

Yes, I think medication should never be the first option, but if the client needs the extra boost until they make progress then medications might be an option. Medications are not a cure all, you have to do work to overcome and learn how to deal with the anxiety and/or depressive symptoms. SSRIs were created to help you get over the initial hurdle, but they were not truly created for long term use, even though many people especially in the US take long term.
The effectiveness for therapy versus medication for anxiety varies depending on your individual needs. However, most research shows a combination of medication and therapy to be most effective in the majority of cases.
