What are general methods used to treat depression?

I am a 25 year old female. I want to know what are general methods used to treat depression?

When treating depression, an evidence-based method we use is called behavioral activation. What that means is we would figure out what are the things you would be doing if you were not depressed, and we would take baby steps towards doing something from that list. It’s sort of like the “fake it ‘till you make it” strategy only you’re not really “faking” it, you’re doing what you’re doing what you would be otherwise doing if you were not feeling depressed.
Hi,

Thank you for your question. There are many forms of therapy to treat depression, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), psychodynamic therapy, humanistic therapy, Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). I would recommend you seek services from a mental health professional to help guide your therapeutic process to treat depression.
I hope this has been helpful!

Talk therapy, get out of you head with the thoughts you are stuck with. Then holistically try different activities to do everyday. Walking is great! Consult with your doctor for other ideas and if they don't help. Talk with your doctor about medication.
CBT, or cognitive behavioral therapy, is typically what I use to treat depression.

Many diverse methods and interventions can be used to treat depression from various psychotherapy approaches to medication. I would recommend obtaining an initial and thorough assessment with a licensed mental health professional, to determine what methods might be most suitable for you.
Therapy is the absolute best “medicine”. I’ve been a Nurse Practitioner 7 years and psychiatric nurse working in mental health for 34 years - and therapy is amazing. Finding the right therapist is a challenge. Not all therapists are the best fit. But finding one you feel comfortable with - is priority. While you are talking with a therapist , you may want to meet with a psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatrist to see if you can benefit from low dose antidepressant while getting help with a therapist.
