Any form of physical therapy including soft tissue massage, warm foot soaks with epsom salts, icy hot, compression socks and ankle braces can offer a mild form of comfort depending on the degree of damage to the joint. If all else fails you can try a steroid injection as a diagnostic tool and also consider regenerative medicine options before any type of surgery.
It depends on what caused the ankle pain. You need an office visit with proper diagnosis William Fishkin DC
Having treated professional athletes for over 30 years I have seen plenty of ankle injuries. Massage can help, but it depends on what the cause of the pain is. If the cause is for example a misaligned talus bone massage will not be able to reduce that pain. I recommend seeing a doctor to evaluate the cause of the pain. A Chiropractor that does extremity treatment can be a place to begin. An orthopedic as well as a DPT can also evaluate the situation to diagnose the cause of the symptom.

Massage can be helpful but a diagnosis is needed to determine when to begin the massage. I recommend you make an appointment with a foot and ankle surgeon (podiatrist) for diagnosis, evaluation and treatment options
That depends on what the cause of your pain is. For certain conditions, massage may WORSEN the problem.

Be careful with an aggressive massage. You should consult with your local podiatrist.
The answer is depends on the root cause of the pain. massage can help with inflammation, arthritis, sprains, tireness. however, if there is something broken or structure misalignement for exam that is causing the pain, then massage is not going to help. therefore, I recommend that you be seen for treatment solution at a local podiatrist.
