Dentist Questions Loss of taste

Loss of taste

Hi, I'm a 20-year-old healthy college student. I recently had a decrease in my sense of taste to where I am mainly just tasting the aftertaste of things rather than the typical taste I would usually have. This started about 2 days ago and I took some covid tests but those came back negative.

Low vitamin B12, B6 values can change taste buds as well as other medications that cause dry mouth.
Have you tried a tongue cleaner? Is there an accumulation of plaque on your tongue?
Losing taste can result from a number of issues. Obviously Covid and other viruses have affected the tastebuds. Burning your tongue may also. Some foods sensitivities could also attribute to the loss of taste. I have had some patients and even family members notice a loss of taste after eating pine nuts used in pesto. With that said if your taste has not returned within one to two weeks I would suggest seeing a doctor as well as your dentist.
