Cardiologist (Pediatric) Questions Heart Rate

Low heart rate 8 year old

My daughter had a bad cough (not covid) so we brought her to the urgent care where they said her heart rate was low but not concerning because she plays football. The next day she went to the nurse at school who said her heart rate was 42 and to call the doctor immediately it then went back up to 62. We brought her in and they scheduled an ekg. We had it done today but haven’t gotten results yet I’m just getting nervous as to why her heart rate seems so low.

There are many reasons for a low heart rate in a healthy child including someone who exercises regularly with a highly aerobic activity like football. In children, the autonomic nervous system, and in particular, the parasympathetic system can also slow down heart rate and is not infrequently seen. The EKG image is blurry and is not something I could read. If you are concerned, I would ask your primary care physician and discuss the option of a pediatric cardiologist consult, but it is again likely normal and not something to be concerned about without any other symptoms or medical history.
I agree with you, the HR is low for an 8-year-old, I hope you got a see a pediatric cardiologist. unfortunately, I was not able to take a look at the ECG. the picture is blurry.
