Infectious Disease Specialist Questions COVID-19 Vaccine

Medical exceptions from COVID vaccination?

My family history has a lot of heart disease. I’ve had 3 stents. My oldest sister has had 2 heart attacks. My mom died at 48 with a massive heart attack. My question is simply my company is mandating a vaccine if I want to keep my job unless you have a medical exception. I’m very concerned about having an adverse effect from the vaccine that would damage my heart or worse. Do I qualify for an exemption?

Dear Sir,

If I have similar heart disease and family history, I would be the first in line to get vaccine in December, 2020. Please go to CVS or similar place to have your first vaccine today and get the second one three weeks later.

Sincerely,

I do not think so. If you were my patient, I would discuss the importance of the vaccine for you. Strict masking and social distancing are very difficult to maintain. The risk of an adverse event from vaccination of significance to your health is minimal - perhaps not zero, but very unlikely. The risk from infection is common. In my interpretation of data, there is no question: get the vaccine

Your stents indicate that you have coronary artery disease. This is not a contraindication for COVID vaccination. The main cardiac risk from vaccination is myocarditis that occurs mainly in young men and teenagers. The risk of myocarditis and other cardiac complications are much higher from a COVID infection. Protect yourself and your family and get vaccinated.
Absolutely not. Get the vaccine for your sake, your co- workers and the safety of the loved ones in your family.
