Metronidazole for a skin infection?

I’m having what appears to be a staph skin infection and I have metronidazole on hand. I have no insurance due to being laid off and I’m wondering if this will do the trick? 500mg tablets. The infection is on my shoulder near the clavicle and behind my ear and on my scalp. It's causing the gland to swell near my jaw’s corner and is painful.

Metronidazole is not typically used for staph infections, as it is mainly effective against bacterial infections caused by anaerobic bacteria. Staph infections are usually treated with antibiotics like doxycycline, clindamycin, or cephalexin.

Given the symptoms you describe, including the swelling of the gland and pain, it’s important to consult a healthcare provider for the appropriate treatment. If you don't have insurance, some clinics offer sliding scale fees or urgent care centers that may help.

If you continue to experience pain or worsening symptoms, visit Irvine Skin for a proper evaluation and treatment plan.

Unfortunately, metronidazole is not for bacterial skin infections. So it will not help.
