Morning diarrhea?

I have for the past 4 years had morning diarrhea. Every morning upon awakening I need to go. Very early do I have a firm stool. I feel very anxious as soon as I wake as I know what is coming. I have had calprotectin tests etc. My local GP has referred me to a gastroenterologist in December. I’m obsessed with this situation now. I have been told it’s IBS. How can I help myself? I’m am 58 years old and otherwise, I am very healthy.

IBS is diagnosed after other diseases have been excluded. You must have further testing including upper and lower GI endoscopy given that you’re over 50 years old.
It might be IBS. Try taking a pill of Imodium at bedtime and see if that slows down the morning diarrhea. Other treatments for IBS will be available by the GI doctor if that is the final diagnosis.
IBS is a frequent cause of diarrhea. However , it causes other symptoms, such as abdominal pain, bloating and gases. And most important, it is a diagnosis of exclusion. Which means that you need a complete evaluation by a GI physician before making a diagnosis of IBS.
