Ankle swelling can have many potential causes. I recommend that you seek professional care from a Podiatric Foot & Ankle Surgeon in your area.
First, need to know if it is acute or chronic; injury or non-injury to the left ankle will determine treatment.
Due to your underlying medical issues, you will need to be evaluated by a podiatrist or some physician.
Regarding a swollen ankle, this would have to be fully worked up and seen by a podiatrist to ascertain the underlying cause. The causes could be injury, arthritis, gout, vein issues, kidney issues, heart issues, certain medications, and even a blood clot. This is just a few of the more common causes there are others. Because you list that you have neuropathy, it is very possible that you injured your ankle without knowing it. I have had patients come in for swollen ankles and it turned out they had a fracture as an example. You need to be seen by a podiatrist. Once the cause of the swelling is determined then there are multiple treatments for the individual condition.

The answer to your question can be answered like this. swelling is a symptom, the root cause is internal in the body. a lot of conditions can cause swelling such as: diet, meds, heart, kidney, activity/job, etc.. so to rid of the swelling, the root cause has to be addressed. therefore I ask that you consult a local podiatrist or vascular doctor. Or consult with you medical doctor.
Sorry, too general of a question- need an evaluation by a Dr
I recommend you make an appointment with a foot and ankle surgeon (podiatrist) for diagnosis, cause and treatment options for your case
Swelling in the ankles can come from a number of problems. This could be a circulatory issue (venous insufficiency or Lymphedema), a cardiac problem (CHF), trauma (sprains, fractures), Tendinitis, arthritis, and various other pathologies. The best idea would be for you to see a physician to get an appropriate diagnosis and then the appropriate treatment to go with that diagnosis. In general, elevating should help decrease swelling, but the swelling will likely persist unless you have the problem properly diagnosed
Sudden or gradual onset? Any pain? Getting better or worse? Any history of injury? Too many open ends. Need to see an orthopedist or podiatrist have x-rays and be evaluated.
Need to know the cause first. Get professional evaluation.
