My mothers heartbeat is irregular. What could be causing this?

My mother has been experiencing irregular heartbeats. What could be the cause? She also has issues with high blood pressure, could there be a connection?

Most likely this is atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation is an irregular heartbeat that will cause fatigue, shortness of breath and palpitations. If left untreated, it may lead to heart failure and other worsening cardiac symptoms. There are many causes of atrial fibrillation but to name a few: older age, hypertension, untreated obstructive sleep apnea, alcohol dependency, and obesity. I would recommend a consultation with a cardiac electrophysiologist to further diagnose and treat your mom. Get Outlook for iOS<https://aka.ms/o0ukef>
A normal heart beats regularly. Irregular heartbeats are a sign of abnormal heart rhythm also called arrhythmias. The most common arrhythmias are atrial fibrillation or Afib. During the Afib the heart beats fast and irregularly. People with high blood pressure are at higher risk of having Afib,
there are many causes of irregular heartbeat. Most common is atrial fibrillation which is an irregular heartbeat that originates from the left upper chamber the heart causing the upper chamber to beat chaotically that can cause symptoms of fatigue, tiredness, shortness of breath and is sustained for more than five hours can be the culprit for stroke. There is a strong correlation between atrial fibrillation and high blood pressure. I would suggest for mom to see a specialist [electrophysiologist] who then will likely order a prolonged monitor for up to 30 days to establish a diagnosis. Other causes of irregular heartbeat could be skipped beats either from the upper chamber of the heart or the lower chamber the heart those could be less harmful at times however also need to be evaluated and most of the time the patient would need a monitor to reach the diagnosis
