Penicillin allergy vs the covid-19 vaccine?

I am allergic to penicillin. About forty years ago, I had a reaction which was a rash under my skin and swelling of my arms and legs. I had no other symptoms but was told to not take it again. I have a chance to get the covid vaccine, do you think it is safe. I am 76 years old.

Penicillin allergy is not a contraindication for a COVID-19 vaccination. Yes- it should be safe to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
It is very safe and there is no cross-reactivity at all with drug reaction. Stay safe get the vaccine
There is no penicillin in any of the COVID vaccines. It’s safe for you to take it.
It is safe to take the vaccine, unless you have a history of reaction to other vaccines or to polysorbate. Penicillin allergy has no effect on vaccine tolerance.
Thanks for the question!

Penicillin allergy is not a risk factor re: the COVID vaccine and it is not even a consideration of any significance. I would also strongly advise you to see an allergist for formal testing for the penicillin as it is highly likely that you are no longer allergic to it - close to 98% of people who think they are still allergic to PCN are actually not.
In my opinion, you should take the vaccine. The vaccine centers should be set up to manage any allergic reactions, so I see no serious risk to you because of your history. I have a second suggestion: ask your doctor to arrange for you to be tested for penicillin allergy. You may not be and penicillin antibiotics are important for us for many infections.
