“STD exposure?”
I’ve been exposed to someone who just told me they have genital and oral herpes. They do not currently have an outbreak. I received oral sex from them and kissed them. This occurred 24 hours ago, how likely is it that I’ve contracted the virus? I’m very nervous and afraid right now and I don’t know much about this. Please help me.

It is possible to contract herpe virus infections (usually HS-1 not HS-2) from oral sex or kissing someone who has the virus; both forms of herpes are transmitted by mucosal-mucosal contact (mucosa refers to moist bodily surfaces(. The risk of transmission from the other person is much higher if they have blisters, open sores or scabs in the area of your contact. The virus can then lay dormant for a very long time: you could have contracted it and not have outward evidence for months. Ask your doctor about anti0viral medicine which wont cure the virus but it can help you have shorter outbreaks and be less likely to spread it to otherstell your friend this as well. SG
