Schizoaffective disorder?

Before I tell my new therapist anything, I don't want meds for my reality but think I'd at least try the meds for the mood disorder part. I shouldn't let them know, right? Or would a doctor that knew maybe be willing to not give me antipsychotics and only the other meds.

Transparency can be difficult in therapy at first. However, sharing this information is crucial for helping to fully address your overall health and well-being. The information about your medications should be shared but also share that you would prefer to not take any medication if it’s possible. In my professional experience, the most effective way to address schizoaffective disorders is with a combination of therapy and antipsychotics. Please consider but remain vocal about any side effects or desires to minimize the use of medication. I hope this helps.

Actually, if you want the best treatment, you do need to tell your prescriber. So, choose one you feel good about. You want treatment that works!

I would encourage you to be completely open with your doctor. If he or she does not pay attention to your wishes, then get a new doctor.
Since you have voice and choice in your own treatments, you can tell your new therapist about all your symptoms and advise them you're choosing to first focus on mood stabilization.  You have certain rights to your health care choices (unless you are under court ordered treatments). You should be honest with your providers about your condition, symptoms, needs, and fears regarding your health/health care so that way, everyone can be on the same page about your health and wellness.
Hello,

I would encourage you to discuss the reasons you want one med over the other. A therapist and psychiatrist will explore the full range of options with you.

Your doctor should know what you need. If you want a buffet treatment, get a doctor that practices that way. You can find a quack everywhere.
