Should I be worried about the insect bite?

I was camping a week back. While sleeping I woke sharply to a sting in my genitals. I woke but didn't think anything of it because of the deep sleep I was in. In the days following, I had become itchy in that area (genitals, up into the pubic area and into the crease of the leg. I then noticed a red spot (the bite site) and swelling. I started taking Benadryl and hydrocortisone cream. Almost 10 days later, the red spot has gone away (although you can still see the initial bite area) but the swelling and itchiness remain. No other symptoms but the swelling have me concerned.

Since you are still concerned about it, you should see your physician because numerous possibilities exist. I also need more information, such as prevalence of Lyme disease in your area (deer tics, whitetail deer )
The concern with any area of redness and swelling in the groin area would be infection. The perineum is especially susceptible to rapid progression of even minor skin breakdown. Although it may seem relatively innocuous, there are several fascial planes that could allow a minor infection to spread quickly. This is especially true for diabetics and so I would
recommend evaluation to determine whether an antibiotic should be prescribed. Given the improvement and amount of time that has passed, you should be fine, but never underestimate any perineal or scrotal redness or swelling.
Want to be sure that you are not developing a small abscess. Have your family Dr. or clinic perform an ultrasound looking for fluid. Otherwise it looks benign.
