Gastroenterologist Questions Silent Reflux

Silent reflux?

I currently have silent reflux (laryngopharyngeal reflux). My doctor said he will take a stool sample in 2 weeks, then he will check for helicobacter pylori antigen. In the mean time, whilst I still have acid in my throat, is there anything i can do to relieve it? I am currently taking antacid liquid, I put down gastroenterologist but ENT doctors and any others are more than welcome to give advice.

Silent reflux is always a questionable diagnosis (often made by ENT doctors who cannot explain a throat symptom). Anti acid medications like PPIs (e.g. prilosec or nexium) are very effective at controlling acid reflux, so I would not trust a diagnosis of "silent reflux" unless it is demonstrated that acid is going into the esophagus despite using anti acid medications daily. The test to prove this is called a 48 hour pH study and a GI doctor can perform it for you.
