General Practitioner Questions Sore Throat

Sore Throat

I woke up yesterday with a dry throat. I felt fine except for my throat feeling dry all day. I drank plenty of tea, water and had lozenges. Today I woke up with my throat hurting and my nose is a little stuffy. My throat is not hurting a lot but it’s enough to be uncomfortable. What can you recommend? I did take Advil but do I need a prescription medication or what works over the counter for sore throat and stuffy nose. I also do have a little post nasal drip. I never know what to buy at the pharmacy.

You can do a sea salt rinse, one teaspoon of sea salt in warm water (as warm as needed to dissolve the salt) and then gargle with it. Use the whole cup, it will take down the swelling and dryness. Saline nasal spray can help with stuffy nose, that can be purchased at your local pharmacy.
I recommend boosting your immune system with something like EmergenC or my favorite is Vitamin C Bio Fizz by Designs for Health. It is a very bio-available form of vitamin C. If you get more persistent symptoms or a high fever I recommend you see your doctor.
