Throat closing up?

Sometimes when I am eating, a tiny crumb will slip down and my throat closes up. I can’t get any air and I panic and frighten all around me. This has been happening for many years and I feel like I could die when it happens. Would an inhaler help?

The first step is evaluation by an excellent ear nose and throat doctor.
Check for a Zenkers's diverticulum, needs a barium esophageal, via radiology facility

Probably means you have an intact sensory neurologic tract. This is reflex mediated by the superior laryngeal nerve which closes the laryngeal opening when food or fluids are in close proximity to entering the laryngeal inlet. It is a protective reflex. Suggest drinking more clear fluids. No talking while chewing, swallowing
Hello,

Difficult to say, but it is possible that the reflux may not be fully controlled leading to this.
