Emergency Physician Questions Ear-Nose and Throat Doctor (ENT)

Does wax buildup cause ringing in the ear?

My ENT has retired and I'm having a lot of problems with my ear, the doctor usually cleans the wax out of my ear and I think it has built up again. I'm having a lot of ringing also.

Since I don't have an ENT right now what do you think I should do?

Instill a mixture of Peroxide and water several times. This will soften and liquefy the wax and come out by itself

Go to an emergency department or urgent care and have the physician or physician assistant look in your ear. While your problem could be caused by wax buildup, it could be that you have an infection of the ear canal (otitis externa). One of the most common causes of ringing in the ears is taking too much aspirin or aspirin containing products.
Cerumen can cause tinnitus if it is touching the the eardrum, Usually low pitched hum, can be intermittent. Most tinnitus is not caused by ear wax. Find another ENT, get your ear cleaned every 3-6 months.
