Umbilical hernia?

I have had this hernia since 2015. I have researched the different methods of surgical repair on the web and watched a number of the surgeries on YouTube. I don't want any man-made patch kits stuck inside me so I have concluded that the Shouldice method is the one to go with.
I am 5'9" and weigh 330 lbs. I have been told I need to reduce my weight to 230 lbs. or less before any surgery can take place. I have not heard/read that necessity when considering the Shouldice. Can I get a Shouldice repair done while at my current 330 lbs?

There is no shoulder repair for an umbilical hernia. It’s for groin hernias. You have a high incidence of recurrence if primary repair is done without mesh.
You have to lose weight and go to a high volume Surgery center.
A Shouldice repair is designed for an inguinal hernia, not an umbilical hernia. A primary repair of your umbilical hernia at your current weight probably has about a 50% of returning.
