OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions

Uterine pain

I had a Pap smear 4 months ago, everything came back normal. Now I have been having uterine pain for a couple weeks with an on and off fishy smell or egg smell. Pain during sitting/standing and the vaginal canal feels swollen as well as the cervix. No itching or burning. No rash or sores. I recently had sex and bled afterwards, I want to know why all of this is happening, but also why it feels like there is gas in my uterus?

Hello and thanks for reaching out!

Typically the fishy/egg foul odor is related to a pH imbalance. It’s a sign of BV or bacterial vaginosis. This can be treated with a course of antibiotics. If you get yeast infections when taking antibiotics, be sure to ask for a yeast pill too! I actually have a video on my social media about bacterial vaginosis that could be helpful if you’re wondering how you get it.

As always, for more individualized care and answers, you should always speak with your provider.

Hope all goes well!
