“What are the disadvantages of zirconia crowns?”
I want to get zirconia crowns. What are the disadvantages of zirconia crowns?

1- Zirconia crowns are opaque. When translucency is needed for esthetics (like in front teeth), the options are porcelain overlaid on top of a thin layer of zirconia or using a more translucent version of zirconia that is not as strong and color match is more difficult.
2- Zirconia is very strong - it is stronger than enamel. As with all crowns other than gold crowns, if a person grinds their teeth, there will be more wear on the opposing teeth (with time grinding against the crown wears away the enamel) … but this is a problem with all crowns that are stronger than enamel.
